Choose Home Continues to Gain Support

In the seven months since the Choose Home Care Act (S. 2562/H.R. 5514) was introduced, lawmakers from both sides of the aisle and across the country have recognized the value of this important legislation.

The Choose Home Care Act would create an additional cost-effective, patient-centered option for seniors to recover at home after being discharged from the hospital. Reinforced by strong public opinion supporting Choose Home (data shows that seniors by a large percentage prefer to recover at home), Choose Home would allow seniors an alternative to nursing home care including skilled nursing and therapy services, expanded personal care and support with activities of daily living in the safety and comfort of their own homes. It would also provide support, training, and education for caregivers and family members, as well remote patient monitoring, meals, and transportation.

To date, 17 Senators and 24 Representatives in the U.S. House have joined the Choose Home Care Act as co-sponsors!

While this is great progress, we need to continue this momentum in 2022 to get the Choose Home program enacted into law. As a member of the home health community, you can play an important role in asking more lawmakers to support this effort.

As we move into the new year, we urge you to again ask your lawmakers to support the Choose Home Care Act and submit a letter to your local newspaper to raise awareness about this important senior care option.
