Expanding home healthcare options can reduce Medicare costs

When COVID-19 began spreading rapidly across Michigan last year, our state’s home health sector quickly adapted to support our response to the pandemic. Recognizing the unique risk of the SARS-CoV-2 virus to home health patients — who are generally elderly, living with disabilities, or coping with multiple chronic conditions — we took urgent steps to ensure their safety and the continued delivery of important care services in the home setting.

In many ways, our evolution over the past year and a half has underscored the growing indispensability of home-based care. Even before the pandemic, Americans increasingly valued the ability to receive healthcare in the comfort and safety of their own homes — a trend that was only catalyzed by COVID-19.
