Bay State seniors deserve a more modern approach to home health

The country seems to be at a turning point in the pandemic, with more states — including Massachusetts — cautiously scaling back some public health policies such as mask mandates. But, with COVID-19 likely to become endemic, we are at an inflection point for modernizing our health care system.
Home health care has been critical over the last two years. Even before the pandemic, it allowed millions of Medicare beneficiaries with serious injury or illness to recover safely in their own homes. But the value of home health became even more apparent amid the pandemic, helping many seniors avoid riskier institutional settings, remain independent and ease the burden on overstretched hospitals.
Unfortunately, not all seniors have the option of choosing home health care when leaving the hospital.
