Remember the Importance of Home Health During Older Americans Month
Each May, the Administration on Aging commemorates Older Americans Month (#OAM18), an annual celebration of the aging members of our families and communities. This year’s theme is Engage at Every Age, which emphasizes that no one is ever too old to enrich their physical, mental, and emotional well-being.
For the approximately 3.5 million Americans who benefit from Medicare home healthcare, the skilled care they receive allows them to remain engaged at home and with their community. To maintain physical health, millions of older Americans are working with skilled nurses to recover from acute injuries or to manage the effects of a chronic illnesses.
Through home healthcare, older Americans are also promoting their mental well-being. Seniors receive personalized care services and assistance with daily activities – helping them maintain a level of independence.
Home healthcare helps older Americans feel empowered – and data shows that it is the preferred option among 89% of seniors. As we reflect on how older adults are making a difference this month, let’s remember the important role that Medicare home health plays in seniors’ physical, mental, and emotional well-being!
